Public venue

Saint Patrick Centre, Downpatrick — from 7.5 Mbps to full-line 75 Mbps

A visitor centre whose backbone had been built on consumer home-plug adapters, throttling the whole building to around 7.5 Mbps.

JKL Electrix proposed network solution drawing for Saint Patrick Centre

The problem

The building was on a 75 Mbps line but real-world throughput was around 7.5 Mbps. Home-plug adapters carrying the backbone were failing intermittently. Nobody had a diagram of what was plugged where.

What I did

  • Cabinet tidy-up: new managed switch, patch panel and clean labelling.
  • Replaced the home-plug backbone with proper structured cabling.
  • Port-by-port network map so the site knows exactly what plugs in where.
  • Two enterprise access points across both floors, plus a third to fix a dead spot in the cinema area.

The result

Wired and Wi-Fi speeds now run at the full 75 Mbps line capacity. Staff have a documented network they can reason about, and adding new devices is a five-minute job instead of a mystery.
