Home Wi-Fi survey FAQs

What is included in the £149 home Wi-Fi survey?

Up to 90 minutes at your home. JKL Electrix tests broadband speed and stability at the router, checks Wi-Fi performance and signal strength room by room, reviews your existing router, mesh units, extenders and powerline adapters, and identifies where access points and Cat6 cable runs would work best. You then receive a written report with prioritised recommendations and a fixed-price quotation for the work.

Why is my broadband fast but my Wi-Fi slow?

Broadband speed is measured at the router. Wi-Fi is what carries that connection through the house, and it is weakened by walls, chimney breasts, foil-backed insulation, floor construction and interference from neighbouring networks. A survey measures what actually reaches each room, which is why the speed test beside the router rarely matches the speed in the back bedroom.

Is the £149 fee credited against installation?

Yes. Proceed with qualifying installation work of £750 or more within 30 days of the survey and the full £149 fee is credited against that work.

Will I receive a written report?

Yes. You get a concise written report covering the findings, the causes, a priority list and the recommended Wi-Fi, access-point and cabling plan. It is available to view in the JKL Electrix customer portal and to download as a PDF.

Can you survey a garden office, garage or outbuilding?

Yes, but a separate building takes the survey beyond the standard scope. Tell us about it in the booking form and JKL Electrix will confirm whether an Extended Home Survey is needed, with the exact price agreed before any payment is taken.

Can you check existing mesh units and powerline adapters?

Yes. Existing mesh systems, extenders and powerline adapters are tested as part of the survey. In many homes they are placed where the signal is already weak, so they repeat a poor connection rather than improve it. The report explains what is worth keeping and what is not.

Can work be completed during the survey?

The survey is a diagnostic visit, not an installation. Small adjustments to settings or equipment placement may be made on the day, but cabling, access points and new equipment are quoted first and installed at a later agreed appointment.

What areas do you cover?

JKL Electrix is based in Downpatrick and surveys homes across County Down and the wider Northern Ireland area. If a property involves significant travel, that is discussed and agreed with you before payment.

What happens if my property requires the extended survey?

You will not be charged a different amount at checkout. If the booking answers show multiple buildings, three or more floors, extensive outdoor coverage or complex CCTV and cabling, the enquiry is held for review, JKL Electrix contacts you to agree the scope and exact price, and payment is only taken once you have confirmed.

Am I obligated to proceed with the installation?

No. You receive the findings, the recommendations and the fixed-price quotation whether or not you ask JKL Electrix to complete the installation.
