Crossgar remote work — budget-conscious hardwired AP install

A homeworker whose upstairs office was on the wrong side of the house from the router. Video calls dropped daily and the ISP kit was doing its best.

Ceiling-mounted access point installed in a Crossgar home office

The problem

Working from home five days a week on Wi-Fi from the far end of the house. Video calls froze during handoffs and file uploads timed out. A whole new mesh setup would have been overkill for the budget.

What I did

  • Single hardwired access point placed after a walk-through, not guessed.
  • Cat6 drop run through existing containment where possible.
  • Router config cleaned up and channel plan tuned to reduce interference from neighbouring networks.

The result

Reliable video calls, stable file uploads, no more dropouts during work hours — at a fraction of the cost of a full mesh replacement.
